Netflix Thailand (NetflixTH) has launched a special "Thai Heart" content initiative in celebration of the upcoming Songkran Festival. The streaming giant is curating a massive wave of Thai entertainment, including series, movies, and special programs, promising viewers an immersive experience into Thai culture and festivities.
The collection is designed to be a digital procession of Thai content, ensuring that the festive spirit of Songkran is accessible everywhere. Netflix emphasizes that this initiative wraps viewers in Thai culture, offering endless entertainment options from the comfort of their homes.
Beyond Streaming: A Cultural Showcase
This move by NetflixTH is part of a broader, strategic investment in Thailand's creative economy. The platform has become a significant exporter of Thai stories, taking local narratives to a global audience. This aligns with Netflix's reported $200 million investment into the Thai creative sector, which has funded over 20 original productions and created an estimated 13,500 jobs, according to the company's 2025 impact report.
The "Thai Heart" collection for Songkran 2026 leverages this growing library. It features content not only from Netflix's own originals but also highlights works from prominent local platforms like apo, a major Thai content hub. This collaboration underscores a trend where global platforms are deepening partnerships with local creators to capture authentic stories and viewing habits.
The Shift in Thailand's Viewing Landscape
Netflix's festive push comes at a time when Thai audiences are rapidly moving from traditional television to digital streaming. Recent data indicates a significant decline in offline TV viewership, with only 53% of Thais watching traditional TV in 2024, down from 63% the previous year. Platforms that successfully blend global reach with local sensibility, like NetflixTH, are positioned to capture this shifting audience.
The Songkran Festival itself, marking the Thai New Year, will be celebrated from 13 to 15 April 2026. Netflix's curated collection serves as both entertainment and a digital homage to this important cultural period, allowing the diaspora and international fans to participate in the celebrations.
